Serve and Be Served at VCSL

The ministries at our Center provide you with opportunities to serve and/or be served.  We value the sacred acts of giving and receiving.  Through devotional service, we grow spiritually, build friendships, create community, and assist those in need of support.  You also may receive assistance as needed.  We believe that every simple act of kindness multiplies and creates ripples that bless all beings everywhere.

Sunday Teams

Mary O. Kerrigan, Ministry Leader

Our VCSL Choir, Hearts in Harmony, is a close-knit community dedicated to providing music at our Spiritual Center.  The choir provides uplifting choral music once a month for Sunday services.  They also sing for holiday services and special events.

The choir is open to everyone who wants to join in the fun.  Volunteers get to share their love of singing with others in spiritually meaningful ways.  They cultivate respect and gratitude for everyone’s contribution as they develop a sense of accomplishment while serving.  They share beauty and inspiration in the universal, transformative language of music.  If you would like to learn more about the choir, please click here.

Suzy Thatcher & Steve Jones, Ministry Leaders

The Welcome Team, otherwise known as the Love Team, serves by providing the first point of contact at the door on Sundays.  They offer smiles, hugs, and welcoming words to invite all to share in the love of our Spiritual Center.

They assist after the service by offering support to congregants and tidying the sanctuary.

The Welcome Team affirms that giving and sharing love is the highest form of receiving love.  They offer this devotional practice as a model for blessing all beings.   To learn more about this team, please click here.

Lacey Weston & LInda Drevenstedt, Ministry Leaders

Our Hospitality Team provides a lovely array of food and drinks immediately following our Sunday service.  This process creates a setting for interactions where visitors, guests, and regular attendees get to know one another.

This ministry promotes love and fellowship as well as an opportunity to feed people on a physical and emotional level.  People leave our hospitality time feeling good in mind, body, spirit and soul.  This goodness ripples out to the community in ways we do not even know.

There are many ways to serve in this ministry:  shopping, donating food, food prep, clean up, and more.  It’s a wonderful opportunity to turn something simple – breaking bread together – into spiritual practice.  To learn more about this team, please click here.

Cheryl Ostrander, Ministry Leader

Our Creative Light Bookstore offers books featured in talks, books written by guest speakers, books used for our Spiritual Center’s classes, and books that support our philosophy.  The bookstore supports the expansion of knowledge and continuous inspiration as we all continue to grow in this infinite pathway called life.

The bookstore is also a hub of activity where people gather to peruse, talk, and just be together.  Our volunteers and “customers” are excited about spreading the word of our teaching for we believe that our philosophy brings goodness to the world.   To learn more about the bookstore, please click here.

Kenny Hobbs, Audio
Edward K. Lynch, Video

This team creates audio and video recordings of the service every Sunday.  The videos are posted on our YouTube Channel and appear on a local Cable Station.   We post an audio copy of the Spiritual Message on our website.  If you prefer a hard-copy CD, we sell those for a nominal fee in our Creative Light Bookstore.

We are eager to share our teaching with everyone, as it helps the world become a kinder place.  To learn more about this team, please click here.

We offer several fundraising events during the calendar year.   The range of possibilities includes concerts, silent auctions, our Gourmets for God party program, and other smaller fundraisers.

A key source of fundraising for our Spiritual Center is our Special Events program where we host renowned authors and Spiritual Teachers.  Past events have included Byron Katie, Matt Kahn, Anita Moorjani, Amit Goswami, and the Interfaith Amigos.

Our fundraising efforts help us grow community and connection.  Our shared generosity allows our Center to thrive so we can share our teaching with the world.  Together, we make a difference in the quality of life for all beings.  To learn more about this ministry, please click here.

Our Facilities Team cares for our building, a National Historic Landmark.  Through maintenance and improvement projects, we honor the beauty of the past while simultaneously creating a place to welcome current and future generations.  We ensure that our Spiritual Center is a safe, beautiful, and sacred space where we gather to create a consciousness that blesses the world.

Participants in our “Church Appreciation Days,” use their unique talents and skills in sacred service.   They experience the joy of accomplishment, while the process of serving together builds community.  To learn more about this ministry, please click here.
